Volunteers of all kinds are needed at DKFI. We need people who can organize events, people who can write letters, people who are in sales and marketing, people who are crafty, people with technology skills, and people who can help out in school. There are projects you can work on by yourself, in a group, at home, or in school. All talents are needed. Here are a few examples of leaders needed:

Beautification/Environment Committee
The Beautification and Environmental Committee envision ideas and plan activities to help make our school beautiful (interior and exterior). Seek ways to revitalize the DKFI Green Team that promotes environmental sustainability and stewardship through awareness, education, and action. |
Business Solicitation & Outreach
Business Solicitation Outreach finds people who know people and are good at working in getting donations from the community for our various events. Solicits donations and support from area businesses. |
Communications & Technology Committee
Handles PTA communications, maintains listservs and/or communications tool, maintains website & social media, streams PTA meetings. The DKFI PTA website, www.dkfipta.org, includes up-to-date PTA news and announcements, a list of PTA officers and committee/volunteer opportunities, school resources/links, PTA activity info, volunteer and membership forms, and useful links to PGCPS sites. Euro Store
Committee members work on all things related to Euro Store, including buying items and staffing the store during school hours for students. Solicit volunteers to organize set-up and periodic inventory tasks of the store. French Community Outreach Committee
French Community Outreach works with local colleges to find Student/Teacher volunteers to promote the Prince George’s County Public School French immersion program. Works with Maya Angelou to plan joint events and to try to reach out to various French speaking communities around us. Think it would be nice to do a celebration of French speakers at the end of year-like a carnival thing where we could have the school and various community groups. And crepes and plantains. Also, reaches out to various French-speaking communities around us. Organizes volunteers for events. Spirit Wear Coordinators
Works with Board to promote school spirit, the PTA sells t-shirts, water bottles, magnets and other spirit items with DKFI logo. Creatively seek additional ideas for promoting school. Orders new spirit items and maintains inventory throughout year. Teacher Appreciation
Helps the plan teacher appreciation events during year, teacher breakfasts and lunches on special occasions, etc. |
Cultural Arts Committee
Cultural Arts Committee works with the Music and Arts Teachers (Mr. Cunningham, Mme Murray and Mme Acree) to plan amazing school-wide cultural presentations for the year. They organize artists and writers in residence and other artistic presentations throughout the year such as the Talent Show. Events and Fundraising Committee
Works closely with Board to identify, plan, and staff PTA events. Organizes volunteers for events. Monitors and administers the ongoing, low-impact fundraising efforts, including BoxTops for Education, CertifiKid, Amazon Smile, Good Search/Good Shop, Eat Well Do Well Program, etc. Another opportunity to collaborate/meet with other parent members and present new ideas to the Board. Grants Committee
Works closely with Board and DKFI staff to identify, write, and deliver various grants applications. Writes grant reports. To start, the Greenbelt ACE grant application deadline is November 1. http://md-greenbelt.civicplus.com/index.aspx?nid=588 Legislative & Advocacy Committee
Legislative Committee works with the DKFI PTA and School Leadership in presenting ideas, information and needs to the Prince George's County Board of Education. Attends school board and other county/state meetings, and advocates for DKFI and immersion programs in general. Reports to membership and Board on legislative issues of interest and importance. Organizes volunteers for meetings. Transportation and Traffic Committee
This committee advocates on behalf of the DKFI community and focuses on general transportation and safety issues that affect our children. Also, communicates the general body needs at PTA meetings and provides information about the transportation/bus programs in PGCPS. Informs new DKFI families of traffic and transportation procedures and opportunities. |
